Interfacing 0.96 Inch SPI OLED Full Color IPS Display Module with Arduino

0.96 INCH OLED IPS Display Module Features

OLED displays are high contrast and high-resolution displays, so they provide a good readability for users. There is no backlight on OLED, and it uses independent-illuminated pixels. So, it is thinner, low-power and more elegant in compare to LCDs. The driver chip is ST7735, which provides I2C communication.

You can download the datasheet of this module here.

0.96 INCH SPI OLED IPS Display Module Pinout

This module has 8 pins:

  • VCC: Module power supply – 5V
  • GND: Ground
  • SCK: SPI clock
  • MOSI: SPI data
  • CS: Chip Select
  • D/C: Data/ Command
  • RES: Reset
  • BLK: Backlight control

Interfacing 0.96 INCH OLED IPS Display Module with Arduino

Step 1: Circuit

The following circuit shows how you should connect Arduino to this module. Connect wires accordingly.

Note

You can control the backlight if you put a resistor between BLK and GND pins, and if the resistor not used, it will be at maximum value.

Step 2: Library

Tip

If you need more help with installing a library on Arduino, read this tutorial: How to Install an Arduino Library

Step 3: Code

Upload the following code to your Arduino.

The wiring diagram does not match the pin definitions in the code. Despite that, the information was useful, once I changed the wiring to match the pin definitions. Thanks!
