The DS1307 is a low-power serial real-time clock (RTC) that provides time and date information in binary-coded decimal (BCD) format. It includes 56 bytes of battery-backed non-volatile SRAM and communicates with microcontrollers via an I²C interface. The clock/calendar provides seconds, minutes, hours, day, date, month, and year information, with automatic leap-year corrections valid up to 2100. Additionally, it features a built-in power-sense circuit that detects power failures and automatically switches to the backup supply, ensuring continuous timekeeping during power outages.
