An RFID system consists of a reader, an RFID tag and an antenna. Of course, the antenna is actually a part of the reader. The antenna is the interface between the reader and the tags. This antenna, which is a kind of coil, constantly produces a magnetic field. As the tags comes close to it, the internal coil of the tag and the antenna creates a transformer and the tag is activated through the electricity obtained from its internal coil. Tags consume negligible current and cause a slight voltage drop in the transmitter coil (antenna). The reader recognizes this voltage drop and is ready to receive the signal. The microchip on the tags will start sending low-level pulses as soon as they are activated. These pulses are transferred to the antenna coil through the transformer system and the reader detects it.
