The Oxidation-Reduction Potential (ORP) Redox Water Quality Detection Module is designed to measure the ORP level in water, which indicates its ability to act as an oxidizing or reducing agent. This module is essential for monitoring and maintaining water quality in various applications such as aquariums, swimming pools, drinking water systems, and industrial processes. By providing real-time ORP readings, this module helps ensure that water remains safe and within desired chemical parameters.

How to use Oxidation-Reduction Potential (ORP) Redox Water Quality Detection Module

ORP composite electrode is a composite electrode composed of gold or platinum electrode and reference electrode, used to measure the redox potential of the solution.

Value in ORP standard solution: 222±15mV (25℃) The temperature coefficient characteristics of ORP standard solution are as shown in the table below (3.5mol/L KCL)

The relationship between the output voltage of the ORP potentiometer module and the redox property is as follows:

Since the ORP sensor module has zero drift voltage, in order to obtain more accurate measurement values and improve measurement accuracy, it is recommended to perform zero point calibration before measurement. The specific steps are as follows:

  • Step 1: Connect the ORP sensor module and processor (do not connect the ORP potentiometer at this time);

  • Step 2: Burn the calibration routine.

  • Step 3: Open the serial port debugging assistant and you can see the currently printed ORP value. Press and hold the zero point calibration button on the ORP sensor module. After the data printed on the serial port monitor is stable, record the offset value. For example, if the serial port prints out: "ORP: 17mV", then change "#define OFFSET 0" in the sample program to "#define OFFSET 17". The purpose of modifying the offset is to eliminate the zero-drift voltage generated by the
    operational amplifier and improve measurement accuracy. After modifying the sample program, just recompile and download it.
    This completes the calibration.

Precautions of Oxidation-Reduction Potential (ORP) Redox Water Quality Detection Module

  • The power supply voltage of the ORP module should be as close to +5.00V as possible. The more accurate the voltage, the higher the accuracy!

  • ORP electrode does not need calibration when used, it can be used directly. Only when there is any doubt about the quality of the ORP electrode or the test results, the ORP standard solution can be used to check the electrode potential to judge the quality of the ORP electrode or instrument.

  • Every time the ORP electrode measures a solution, it needs to be cleaned with clean water. It is recommended to use deionized water for cleaning.

  • When the ORP electrode is connected to the ORP meter circuit board, it is strictly prohibited to press the calibration button, otherwise the ORP electrode will be damaged!

  • As the temperature increases, the ORP value of the solution decreases significantly and has a good linear relationship. Therefore, when describing the ORP value of the solution, the current solution temperature must be indicated to have practical significance.
