This is one of our trackball breakout boards. The four spindle trackballs have a small round magnet on the end; each of these is paired with an SMD Hall effect sensor, which is used to measure the up, down, left, and right motion of the trackball. A patch momentary switch is placed on the trackball to give you a selector switch. The button will be pulled low when the switch is pressed.
The trackbailer also includes 4 LED lights: red, blue, green and white. These are available with light clear trackballs in any color you can imagine.
All features are broken down by a 0.1" pitch header with 2.5-5.25VDC power regulation, which must be provided to power the Hall sensor. The trackball is attached with strong calcium glue. The combination of Hall effect sensor and trackball is surprisingly sensitive.
A slight roll of the trackball will create multiple high/low transitions on the four-axis pin, easily picking up any microcontroller and essentially giving you the option of adding a mouse to your project. 360° rotating trackball, along one axis, with approximately 9 high/low transitions.
