The DS1302 is a trickle-charge timekeeping chip that contains a real-time clock (RTC) and 31 bytes of static RAM. It communicates with a microcontroller via a simple serial interface. The real-time clock provides seconds, minutes, hours, day, date, month, and year information, automatically adjusting the end of the month for months with fewer than 31 days, including leap year corrections. The clock operates in either 24-hour or 12-hour format with an AM/PM indicator.
